Esse forniscono un posto centrale per gestire file che si trovano in cartelle diverse, all'interno del computer. Cosi, invece di cliccare tra lunghi percorsi e directory per trovare i file che si vogliono lanciare, li si comprende in una raccolta e si fa prima. Per accedere alle raccolte di Windows 10 e 11, dovrebbe essere gia presente il tasto con la forma di cartella in basso sulla taskbar; altrimenti le si trova come icona sul desktop sfogliando i file con esplora risorse.

Per esempio, aprendo la raccolta documenti, si apre la cartella Documenti con tutti i file memorizzati al suo interno. Questa non si sposta , soltanto che il suo contenuto viene visualizzato assieme ad altro nella raccolta scelta. Per creare nuove raccolte basta aprire la cartella principale, cliccare col tasto destro scegliendo poi "nuova" e darle un nome.
