Hardware raid can't do that. Most hardware raid is just software raid anyway. Microsoft's OSs are buggy enough that they should really support this configuration. RAID is designed to help you recover from drive failures, not faulty software. Right, it's supposed to help you recover from hardware failures. Well, you can get a low-end RAID card for next to nothing nowaday: it'll be more stable and have a better chance of actually doing some good in case of failure than the OS's functionality although it'll still be "software" RAID unless you go for the really high end cards.
